Endangered populations suffer from genetic problems that increase their extinction risk. Genetic rescue is a conservation method that restores the genetic health of an endangered population by crossing it with a closely related one. This thesis uses the Critically Endangered helmeted honeyeater, endemic to Australia, as a case study to contribute novel resources and methods to enhance the understanding and application of genetic rescue.
