Focussing on examples such as Blue Is the Warmest Colour (Kechiche 2013), Art School Confidential (Zwigoff 2006), and The Diary of a Teenage Girl (Heller 2015), this dissertation examines the process of adapting Alternative Comics into independent films from a theoretical and practical perspective. Theoretically speaking, the research draws upon the work of Linda Hutcheon to address the What, Who and How of adaptation by disentangling the layers of artistic input involved in the process of comics-to-film adaptation.
