This thesis examines the effect of follistatin treatment on inflammation and fibrosis around silicone implants in mice as well as different methods of follistatin delivery. It establishes that a single injection of follistatin directly around the implant at the time of silicone implant insertion and a single injection of follistatin-impregnated hydrogel at the time of silicone implant insertion into the mice both result in a significant reduction in peri-capsular inflammation and capsular fibrosis.
