Fighting Inflammation with Food: Investigating the effect of using a whole-of-diet approach to lower levels of inflammation in metabolically compromised adults

Heart disease is the number one cause of death globally, and inflammation in obesity contributes to its development and progression. This thesis presents evidence that an innovative anti-inflammatory diet can reduce inflammation in adults who have an increased risk of developing heart disease. These beneficial effects on inflammation can occur in the absence of weight loss. While weight loss is a first line treatment for reducing heart disease risk, long-term weight management in obesity has a high risk of failure. The findings from this thesis present an alternative dietary strategy that may help to prevent disease onset and slow progression.
