The moment a clinician tells a family their child has autism can be a significant and overwhelming experience for parents. The way in which this news is delivered can have long lasting impacts on the wellbeing of the child and their family. Parent report literature suggests this appointment is not always conducted well. My research aimed to explore this often overlooked, yet significant element of the autism assessment process, and establish best practice recommendations relating to the structure and content of the autism feedback. This research highlights areas for improvement for Australian clinicians.
