Some patients with asthma have disease that is difficult to control despite high doses of asthma inhalers. This thesis examines factors that contribute to this, including how patients may not take their inhalers as prescribed and other conditions that can coexist with or mimic asthma such as cough sensitivity or a disorder of the voice box known as vocal cord dysfunction.
