This thesis established the reactivity of a synergistic mixed metal sodium magnesiate base against a variety of nitrogen and phosphorus containing molecules. New reactivity was found to occur, giving outcomes which are not possible with more traditional reactions. This sodium magnesiate base can also be used at room temperature, negating the need for costly cryogenic cooling frequently required with other methods. Comparison of the reaction outcomes between nitrogen and phosphorus containing molecules allow fundamental concepts to be developed.
