Venous leg ulcer is a common chronic leg ulcer in the primary care setting, but the healing rate and recurrence rate remain high when managed by compression therapy. Physical activity may be a potentially effective adjunct treatment to compression therapy to improve ulcer healing outcomes, but it is not well explored. This thesis systematically explores the role of physical activity as an adjunct treatment and proposes an exercise programme aimed at improving healing outcomes for venous leg ulcers.
