Exploring the Clinician Experience of Providing Complex Care in a Public Hospital Setting

thesis
posted on 2025-02-07, 03:56 authored by Felice Borghmans
This thesis explores the clinician experience of providing care for patients with health and psychosocial complexity in the context of a pressurised hospital environment. Globally, hospitals and healthcare systems are dealing with rising demand for increasingly complex care while at the same time struggling to contain costs and retain workforce. This thesis employs a complexity informed phenomenological lens in its exploration of the clinician’s lifeworld in this challenging but equally rewarding context. Findings and recommendations address the intricate relationship between seemingly distal policies and systemic issues and their effects at the bedside for patients, clinicians, and healthcare quality and sustainability.
