Exploring relationships between social and cognitive difficulties in adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

thesis
posted on 2022-12-02, 03:57 authored by ERIN LOUISE MCKAY
Social difficulties are a key feature of adolescent attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This thesis extends our understanding of the underlying factors which contribute to these social difficulties. The results highlight several novel findings which collectively inform a model of social difficulties for adolescent ADHD, taking into consideration factors which both exacerbate social difficulties and present a barrier to treatment. It is hoped that this evidence-based model may be used re-shape how social difficulties are conceptualised, and allow for the development of effective, targeted interventions with the hopes of improving social and emotional outcomes for adolescents with ADHD.
