This thesis is focused on the investigation of droplet breakup in a two-phase microfluidic system and the use of single-layer microvalve for on-chip droplet manipulation. The thesis includes studying the mechanism of droplet breakup at the entrance of the bypass channel using experimental and numerical methods. The microfluidic device capable of selective droplet breakup at two locations using single-layer microvalves. And integration of droplet generation, breakup and merging with multiple single-layer microvalves.
