Exclusionary governance: Move-on practices and environmental design

thesis
posted on 2020-10-13, 03:47 authored by NICOLA JANE HELPS
This thesis interrogates how move-on powers and practices are connected to parallel structures of control such as crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED). The analysis illustrates how everyday exclusion is enacted by a range of authorities, not just criminal justice system actors and illuminates the impacts of these practices on targeted populations such as rough sleepers. The analysis brings together the social and spatial, and in so doing offers a new conceptualisation of exclusionary governance that is attentive to the cumulative impact of policing and design in reproducing marginalisation.
