Evolutionary responses to combinations of thermal and nutritional stress

Climate change is making the environment more stressful to live in. I looked at how fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) cope with changes in both temperature and nutrition, conditions which are predicted to change over the next 10 years. I studied how flies mount immediate responses to environmental changes and how they adapt to these conditions over generations. I found that the way flies respond and adapt to combined stressors was complex and unpredictable. My research highlights the importance of considering multiple environmental changes to understand if species can persist in a changing climate.
