Stepfamilies are an increasingly prominent societal family form. They are complex and diverse. My research addresses the impact recoupled parents, educators, and family service providers have on the healthy development of stepfamilies. Four case studies explored the unique issues recoupled parents confront raising their step/biological children. In addition, the views of professionals involved with these families were sought, particularly regarding the effectiveness of support. The findings address confusion and ambiguity; communication; transitioning; and, adapting. Change is required in family policy, family law, professional support, and education to address the unique issues that stepfamilies face to support the development of healthy stepfamily forms.
