Numerous challenges to the healthcare system such as population aging, stagnating workforce, and the rise in demand for quality healthcare indicate healthcare is increasingly complex. These challenges have put the spotlight on the importance of organizational angle in the healthcare market. By investigating different aspects of healthcare delivery, namely the causes (i.e. competition), processes (i.e. peer effects, types of healthcare providers), and consequences (i.e. treatment decision and patient's outcome) this thesis aims to provide policy-relevant insights from three self-contained empirical case studies.
