This thesis explores the impact of Protestantism on Korean society during the colonial period. It demonstrates that Protestantism was linked with an increase in literacy rates. Moreover, the thesis shows that Protestantism was a driving force behind the rise in literacy rates. The thesis also provides evidence of the role of female Protestants in enhancing women's political participation during the colonial era.
