This thesis examines the impact of cardiovascular disease (CVD) on people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Australia and Qatar. In Qatar, it's estimated that there will be over 108,000 non-fatal heart attacks and more than 62,000 non-fatal strokes, while Australia will encounter around 83,000 heart attacks and 58,000 strokes. The total costs are projected to be about US$19.70 billion in Qatar and US$13.11 billion in Australia. Our review found that combing ezetimibe with statins is cost-effective to prevent CVD in T2D. Additionally, combining empagliflozin with metformin as a first-line treatment is cost-effective in both countries. Using a productivity-adjusted life year metric, the overall economic loss due to CVD in T2D is significant, with Australia losing around US$173.48 billion and Qatar losing around US$233.03 billion in economic productivity.
