Enzymatic Biodiesel Production from Simulated Low-quality Feedstocks Using Liquid Lipase Eversa® Transform 2.0: Performance Evaluation and Lipase Recovery

thesis
posted on 2022-12-05, 06:25 authored by MUN YUEN CHANG
Biodiesel is a promising alternative fuel to fossil diesel. There has been substantial interest in using third-generation feedstock to produce biodiesel because they are economically and environmentally more favorable than refined vegetable oil. In this work, a low-cost liquid lipase Eversa® Transform 2.0 was used as a biocatalyst. A novel method to recover lipase by the addition of chitosan into the lipase solution was also studied. In summary, Eversa® Transform 2.0 is an efficient enzyme for synthesising biodiesel from feedstocks containing high FFA. The economics and sustainability of biodiesel production can be improved by applying simple enzyme recovery methods.
