In recent years, organizations have recognized knowledge as a crucial asset, adopting strategies to preserve it for the future. Justifying resource allocation for knowledge management (KM) initiatives remains a challenge. This thesis comprises three papers to enhance understanding of KM. Paper 1 analyzes KM literature evolution, identifying 11 key research themes, offering a holistic view. Paper 2 focuses on KM processes, especially knowledge transfer, revealing associations with learning, embeddedness, and innovation. Paper 3 explores KM process enablers and barriers in software development, emphasizing adaptability, structured storage, and leadership support. These papers offer comprehensive insights into KM dynamics, bridging gaps, and providing practical implications for academia and practitioners.
