Energy efficient production of nanocellulose

Nanocellulose is a high-value product in the pulp and paper industry and has a lot of good properties which makes it an excellent tool for packaging applications and others. However, the high mechanical refining energy during nanocellulose production makes it difficult to commercialize. This thesis develops an energy-efficient and sustainable production route for nanocellulose production using a combination of mechanical refining and selective separation using flotation and establishes the conditions to minimise energy consumption while meeting the performance required for packaging applications.
