This thesis of 104 peer reviewed publications includes studies on the surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
Key findings include – demonstrating branching of recurrent laryngeal nerves, which supply the muscles of the larynx (voice box) - the muscular motor fibres being located in the anterior branch of the nerve; a new operative concept of two layers enveloping the recurrent laryngeal nerve; and their correlation with mechanisms and associations of recurrent laryngeal nerve dysfunction after thyroidectomy causing hoarseness.
The research also highlights preoperative investigation including imaging and biopsy, and the safety and outcomes of thyroidectomy and neck surgery
