This doctoral research explored current employment trends in the new graduate dietitian workforce in Australia and New Zealand and identified ways to enhance the employability of this workforce. For the first time, employment rates and fields of employment for new graduate dietitians in Australia and New Zealand were quantified. Findings from this research indicated that dietetic graduates felt unprepared for private practice, which was the most common area of employment. Diverse placement settings, including private practice, may be important to prepare this valuable workforce for current and future employment opportunities.
