Two improved versions of a natural compound called embelin were developed to help protect brain cells affected by Alzheimer’s disease and glaucoma. Since embelin doesn’t dissolve well in water, a safe chemical carrier called Poloxamer 188 was used to create conjugate and nanomicelle formulations that improve delivery. These formulations were tested in lab models to see if they could protect brain cells and successfully reach the brain. Results showed improved barrier transport and rat's memory retention, suggesting their potential as new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
