Electronic Properties of Atomically Thin Topological Materials

thesis
posted on 2021-05-20, 06:31 authored by CHANG LIU
The topological phase is a new phase-type of matter other than traditional phases like solid liquid and gas. Na3Bi films have both a topological Dirac semimetal phase (thick films) and a 2D topological insulator phase (few-atomic-layer), promising candidates for topological phase studies. This thesis focused on optimizing Na3Bi thin- and few-layer-film device growth in ultra-high vacuum conditions, in-situ electronic transport properties characterization, and air-stable Na3Bi devices fabrication via capping technique. The contents presented in this thesis have laid the foundation for the understanding and application of atomically thin materials with topological phases.
