Using research evidence to inform healthcare policy and practice improves patient outcomes. However, little is known about how to facilitate this process. This thesis explores different ways of evaluating approaches to improve the uptake of research evidence in healthcare policy and practice. One conventional study approach is presented to implement evidence-based weekend service recommendations for allied health managers; and one novel study approach is presented to implement evidence into falls prevention and deep vein thrombosis care by nursing and allied health professionals in the hospital setting. Future research can consider applying these approaches in other health contexts.
