This thesis evaluates the effectiveness of Context-based Undergraduate Biochemistry for Health Sciences (CUBHS) resources. In designing the resources, three approaches, use of relevant contexts, scaffolding and active learning are combined to ensure the delivery of concepts that are current and relevant. The resources are utilised in small group sessions in stand-alone biochemistry units for nursing, psychology, medical technology and pharmacy cohorts. To measure the impact of CUBHS resources in learning, surveys, knowledge tests and focus groups are employed. Findings reveal that utilising CUBHS resources enhances attitudes to learning, strengthens perceptions of professional and personal relevance of biochemistry and increases content knowledge.
