This doctorate thesis introduces engineered nanocellulose hydrogels as a performant and sustainable biomaterial for biomedical applications. Specifically, this thesis aims to engineer the mechanical, chemical, and biological properties of cellulose-based gels to form a novel matrix for the separation in diagnostics and for 3D cell culture systems.
