This creative practice research explores what happens when a documentary lens is pointed at the future. It asks how documentary film can be utilised to imagine alternative futures and move beyond the past/present temporal frame of traditional documentary narratives. Through practice Documentary Futures emerges as a filmmaking technique that works toward the creation of alternative futures. Documentary Futures extends the possibilities of documentary’s potential for social impact and offers a new approach to making documentary films in times of crisis.
