This study aims to investigate how Sri Lankan undergraduates engage in digital literacy practices in English in their everyday context. Informed by the sociocultural perspective of digital literacies, the study specifically explores participants’ social purposes, preference for English and identity work when engaging in everyday digital literacy practices. The findings of the study indicate that social participation was central to their everyday digital engagement in which English language emerged as the most preferred medium of communication. Their preference for English was directly associated to their future aspirations and needs for social and political stability.
