Dietary metabolites: A novel approach to prevent the oral-gut dysbiosis/inflammation nexus
thesisposted on 2023-11-22, 04:34 authored by JUAN ALBERTO PACHECO YANES
Periodontitis represents a chronic inflammatory disorder of microbial origin affecting the supporting tissues of teeth that is strongly associated with the development of several chronic inflammatory diseases. However, the critical role of the oral-gut microbiota and its derived metabolites, such as SCFAs on periodontal infection has not been elucidated. Here, we explored for first time the role of SCFAs on periodontal infection. This study demonstrated that SCFA acetate showed a bacteriostatic effect on P. gingivalis growth in-vitro and that HAMS-AB diet ameliorated periodontitis development by impacting on the oral-gut dysbiosis and inflammation.
