Diabetes is associated with an increased risk for a number of life-threatening and disabling complications. This thesis explored the epidemiology of a key complication arising from diabetes - diabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD). Data from this thesis have added to the evidence base pertaining to our understanding of CKD progression in people with type 2 diabetes, while addressing gaps in knowledge. The findings derived from the work within this thesis could be used to inform and influence the design of ongoing and planned renal trials that will improve the health and care of people living with diabetes and CKD.
