Development of a fully coupled hydro-mechanical multi-phase multi-physics SPH framework to model soil internal erosion

thesis

This study focuses on the damaging effects of internal erosion in soil, a crucial concern for structures like embankments. Internal erosion causes soil to lose mass and strength, leading to potential failures. To address this, the research introduces a new mathematical model that accurately describes the behaviour and interactions of various components within soil. Additionally, the study develops constitutive models to understand how soil responds during and after erosion. It also presents a computational framework that effectively simulates erosion processes. By applying these advancements, the study sheds light on erosion mechanisms and helps design safer structures for our communities.
