Development of a Self-Biased Photoelectrochemical Tandem System for Sustainable Hydrogen Production

thesis
posted on 2025-07-10, 04:38 authored by Quan Yee Tey
As the world confronts the critical need for clean energy, sustainable green hydrogen production emerges as a pivotal solution. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) technology, which harnesses sunlight to drive water-splitting reactions, offers a sustainable green technology alternative. This research successfully developed a PEC tandem system, encompassing the design and optimisation of the photoelectrodes and overall system operation. By integrating materials innovation with system design and refinement, this research successfully developed the self-biased BiVO4-Cu2O PEC tandem system, achieving enhanced water-splitting performance. The outcomes of this research serve as a foundation for future advancements in PEC water-splitting, accelerating progress toward a carbon-neutral energy future.
