Development of Phosphorus-based Systems for Efficient Photocatalytic Carbon Dioxide Reduction to Methane

thesis
posted on 2023-10-17, 21:55 authored by CHENG MAY FUNG
The photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon-neutral fuels is one of the most compelling and promising methods for sustainable fuel production and environmental remediation. Nevertheless, the inefficient utilization of solar energy, sluggish charge kinetics and inadequate surface active sites of conventional photocatalysts inhibit their wider application. This thesis explores, designs, and develops efficient phosphorus-based photocatalysts for carbon dioxide conversion under visible and near-infrared light into methane through various state-of-the-art modification strategies such as homojunction formation, dual Z-scheme construction, ultrathin two-dimensional material design, oxygen vacancy engineering and sensitization with quantum-sized materials.
