Development of Mechanical Stimuli-responsive Oil-Core Polymeric Microcapsules for Moisturising Glove Application

thesis
posted on 2021-03-04, 01:59 authored by ABDUL HASIF ABD RAHIM
Mr Abdul Hasif’s doctoral dissertation presented a successful proof-of-concept work in the design and development of smart polymeric microcapsules encapsulating natural essential oil for new functional glove fabrication. He demonstrated that the mechanically activated release property of as-synthesised microcapsules are highly practical and attractive for moisturising glove-making via polymer coating method. A clinical study revealed that the developed smart microcapsules-incorporated moisturising glove is capable of providing a temporal comfort and sustained skin hydration effects to glove wearers. The outcome of his research paves the way for further development and commercial production of next-generation rubber glove products with value-added moisturising feature.
