Balance exercises are routinely prescribed to improve balance to prevent falls in older adults. To determine the optimal intensity of balance exercises in rehabilitation, a valid measure of intensity is needed. This thesis reports a scale development project that has developed two scales to measure balance exercise intensity, and assessed these new measures in a diverse sample of older adults. This research has laid the groundwork necessary for future investigation of exercise intensity recommendations as they apply to balance exercise training.
