Designing a tissue-selective steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist for the treatment of chronic heart failure

thesis
posted on 2020-08-18, 03:59 authored by AMANPREET KAUR
This thesis investigated a novel approach to design a drug that binds selectively to the cardiac tissue and spare the kidneys. This drug is aimed at treating chronic heart failure patients. The findings of the thesis suggested that a drug could be designed so when it reaches the heart, it binds to the targeted receptor. However, upon entering kidneys, the drug can be inactivated by an enzyme that is specifically present in the kidney and absent in the heart.
