Design and Fabrication of 3D Printed Drug Delivery Systems

thesis
posted on 2020-08-18, 07:32 authored by Tiffany Tang
Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is an evolving technology that has made a big impact in various fields as a convenient and quick way to build objects with fine details. This research used 3D printing to create new structures for the manufacture of bespoke drug delivery devices, particularly for transdermal and oral administration. It allows the production of complex designs, such as a patch with milliprojections, and individually-unique pills that enable personalised medicine. This can increase the therapeutic efficiency of the drugs by tailoring them to the specific needs of individuals, based on their distinct physiology and prognosis.
