Specialist nurses are often included in multidisciplinary teams to provide supportive care to women with gynaecological cancer. This thesis describes and defines the role of specialist nurses in the provision of gynaecological cancer care in Australia and New Zealand. It identifies that specialist nurses play a ‘keystone’ role for both women and the multidisciplinary team, though not all women with gynaecological cancer have access to their care. It recommends the standardisation of specialist nursing nomenclature, the development and evaluation of guidelines for practice, and access to specialist nursing care for all women with gynaecological cancer.
