Dennis Hopper: Maestro of Film Art

thesis
posted on 2021-03-22, 05:46 authored by Joanna Elena Batsakis
This film studies thesis examined Dennis Hopper, one of the most creative, abstract, affecting, heroic, strange, and fearless artists to ever exist in Hollywood history. Although he is known for directing the decade-defining films 'Easy Rider' and ‘Colors’, Hopper was also an accomplished visual artist. This thesis investigated how Hopper's career as a photographer, painter, and sculptor (as well as his passion for art collecting, including works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Julian Schnabel) influenced the visual design for each of the six films he directed between 1969 and 1990.
