Duplex Brass is used extensively in the plumbing industry. It has the best known combination of processing characteristics, strength and corrosion resistance. In 2014, Pb was legislated to a maximum of 0.25% in plumbing products in the US. As a result several new 'Pb-free' alloys have started entering the market. The optimization of these new alloys has been very empirical to date. Therefore, this research examines in detail the processing-structure-property relationships for these alloys. It is inclusive of studies on phase equilibria, hot workability, machinability and corrosion resistance.
