Defining Dietary Treatments for Human Sulfur-containing Amino Acid Disorders Using Drosophila melanogaster

thesis
posted on 2025-01-15, 06:00 authored by Jiayi Lin
This research focuses on rare genetic disorders known as sulfur-containing amino acid disorders. These diseases, caused by genetic defects affecting amino acid metabolism, can lead to severe health problems and early death. Using fruit flies as disease models, three specific disorders were studied. Various dietary treatments were tested, with some resulting in improved health of the fly models. This work deepens our understanding of underlying disease mechanisms and helps develop better dietary treatments for these rare diseases.
