Cross-border identity crime in Vietnam: An examination of the commission and policing of crime from the perspectives of offenders and police officers

thesis
posted on 2024-02-29, 23:11 authored by DUC HUY PHAN
The study examined cross-border identity crime in Vietnam, drawing on secondary data and interviews with police officers and criminals. It demonstrates that Vietnam attracts offenders from countries that have a close political and economic relationship with Vietnam. Where Vietnamese are involved, they receive a minor portion of the stolen money and are at greater risk of identification. Based on Routine Activity Theory, the study also identified conditions of Vietnam sustaining cross-border identity crime. The study offers key insights into the challenges facing Vietnamese police in dealing with cross-border identity crime and how international cybercrime syndicates commit it.
