The high prevalence of Diabetes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) presents many challenges to the population, the healthcare system and, to the economy. Research findings show that people living with diabetes can be helped to live better, by educating them about the disease. However, to provide such help, the diabetes educators (DEs) must be qualified and competent. This is the first study done in KSA, on this important subject, to determine the levels of diabetes knowledge and competence of practicing DEs in KSA. The findings are valuable for the healthcare authorities, in planning improvements to diabetes education services.
