This thesis investigated several factors that have a significant impact on the sleep of adolescents. We found that everyday stress leads to hyperarousal at night and difficulty falling asleep, however, problem-solving during the day may help adolescents mitigate these effects. Planning bedtime on school nights and going to bed as planned helped adolescents have more time in bed, and using several sleep-facilitating behaviours helped adolescents have longer sleep duration and better sleep quality. These sleep self-regulating behaviours can be readily included in sleep interventions to help adolescents improve sleep.
