Contemporary Evolution of Herbicide Resistance in Malaysian Weedy Rice

This thesis focused on understanding the molecular mechanism in conferring Imidazolinone herbicides resistance in Malaysian weedy rice. A combined analysis of ALS sequencing, ALS enzyme colorimetric assay, genome-wide SNPs and RNA sequencing data derived from the resistant and susceptible weedy rice accessions was used to determine the genes potentially contributing to the resistance traits in the weeds. The results highlighted that both target site and non-target site resistance mechanism contributing to the evolution of herbicide resistance weedy rice.
