In Australia, consumer engagement in medical research is crucial but has not been prioritised in perioperative studies. This thesis explores the existing state of consumer involvement in medical research, identifying successes and adoption strategies. The work focuses on where we are currently, identifies in medical research, and adopts and explains successful and not prosperous approaches that have been recognised worldwide. This resulted in determining the need for research priorities to be identified and adopted into perioperative medical research in Australia.
