Construction of metal-organic framework-based ion channels for fast and selective ion transport

While biological ion channels display ultrahigh ion conductivity and selectivity, designing synthetic analogues remains a great challenge. The thesis investigates metal-organic frameworks with specific ion binding sites and sub-1-nanometer channels. It discovers high ion conductivity and selectivity in such porous materials, and provides new strategies for developing advanced membranes for energy-efficient separation and high-efficiency energy conversion.
