Conceptualisations of Sharm in Persian

thesis
posted on 2020-11-09, 06:03 authored by SARA GHAZI
This study investigates the conceptualisations of SHARM in Persian adopting the frameworks of Cultural Linguistics and corpus linguistics. The emotion of SHARM in Persian is found to be different from the concept of shame in English, although some similarities exist. As an instance, SHARM is conceptualised as a pleasant emotion accompanied by some other positive emotions such as joy and excitement, which does not seem to have a counterpart in English. The study holds significance and implication for a variety of domains including inter-cultural communication, translation and interpretation studies, psychology and counselling, and language learning and teaching.
