Modern developments of microfluidic devices for fluid transport have found many applications, ranging from the life sciences industries for to industrial applications. As the channel size becomes smaller, deviation from conventional theories occur. A combined approach of discrete element model (DEM) for particles and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is first applied to study of the particle-fluid flow behaviour inside micro-channel, provide details of solid structures, flows and forces to understand the fundamentals of these systems, which are not possible to obtain by experiments.
